This one is a weird mix of stlye. The pose looks like some chinese dragons while the style is inspired by viking art, and the wing... hm... I don't know from where it comes.
Another of those "I have no idea so let's draw a triskele" moment. =p.
On a side note, some times ago I received a "final reminder to update (my) legacy blogger account", saying I couldn't access it after May 30th. I'm still wondering what they are talking about, as this blogger account does not seem to be "legacy", and I can't remember having any other account. I guess I received the message by mistake, but hopefully they won't close this blog by mistake... Ahem!
Sometimes I wonder why I keep trying to colour things with pencils, as obviously my only talent is finding the worst colour schemes. Blue and orange-red seemed like a good idea, and now I think it just look weird. I added a black and white version which I prefer.
I have been quite busy the last few months with a lot of different projects, with little time to write posts on my blog. But to show you some new projects I've been working on; here's a new tattoo for my shoulder galleries. It's a mixed design with Maori elements and Samoan pattern. The images below show the design process in different steps. First I make a basic outline for the shoulder as a template. Then I use my pencil to sketch some flowing koru shapes. Normally I do the whole piece with pencil first and start tracing it when I'm finished. Today I was a bit impatient, and decided to trace parts of the tribal shapes. You see some Polynesian turtle patterns and Samoan spearheads and stylized fish.
Here you see half of the design traced with a black felt tip marker:
And a few pictures of the finished shoulder tattoo design
I also made a youtube movie of this Shoulder tattoo 156:
The tattoo is available for purchase on my website here.
Tomorrow I will be back with another design process!
I had once again no inspiration, I just planned to draw a lotus and was not motivated to do so. Then the idea of adding a black suit to it popped in my head, and somehow, that way I was motivated... Go figure.
After drawing this I had the feeling I already saw something similar somewhere, but was unable to find it. I guess it's just a mix of a human skull + an Alien-inspired tail, or something.
Recently I created two new tattoo designs for my webshop. The first tattoo is a Kirituhi Maori style shoulder design. All my tattoos are hand-drawn on A3 paper with a B2 pencil. First I sketch the basic shape of the shoulder and upper arm and then add some koru (fern) curves that flow nicely through the design. Once I'm satisfied with the overall look, I start filling in the patterns between the korus with triangles, lines, spearheads and other repetitive shapes. Below are a few pictures of the tattoo design in progress
For my Youtube channel I created a special video, so you can see the total design from start to finish:
The final high resolution is available on my website, but can also be purchased here on my blog. Once I receive your payment, you will get 2 high quality .jpg files. The first one is the full design including gradients, the second is the linedrawing or stencil for your tattoo artist, so he can easily transfer the outlines of the design to your skin with thermal paper.

My scanner still believes than light green = yellow, so as always I had to struggle to get the colours right. :p Coloured pencils (but the blue glow is digital). Maybe it can be seen as elements: water and earth.
I haven't looked at this website (or my associated email box) for ages, I thought that taking a big break would do me good. But I discover I still have very very few inspiration for "tatoo-able doodles". Argh.
A few months ago I created a Maori fern tattoo design for a customer from New-Zealand, also named Aotearoa. The koru is the spiral shape of a silver fern frond and it is a symbol of growth, strenght and peace. This symbol is used in a lot of Maori art, carving and tattoos.
My Kiwi customer from the Pacific Ocean asked me to design a tattoo to cover the full side of his body, from armpit to just above the hip. First I created a sketch with pencil for the rough outline of the fern. Then I added some repetitive leaves and koru shapes on the bottom. To add some more depth and 3d to the fern and arrow shapes, I added shadings to the leaves. The high resolution tattoo is optimized and the linedrawing or stencil is created for the customer. This linedrawing is used to transfer the outlines of this koru tatoo to the body.
Yesterday I received this photo of the final tattoo on the side of the customers body. It looks great!
If you are interested in a custom maori inspired tattoo or a silver fern design, please let me know and maybe I can help you out with a unique piece.
Ugh, horrible pun. It only has 2 paws so it looks like a mix of snake and dragon, maybe... My previous attempts (of completely different drawings) were failures, so this final one was done in a rush as I was getting annoyed.
I was a bit out of ideas lately, so tadaaa... a tribal flash. It's funny to think I started to draw this kind of stuff some 15 years ago when I was in secondary school. At that time I thought there was only 2 types of tattoos in the world : tribals and the crappy prison/army tattoos worn by some adults I knew (ugly cross, lion, naked chick, knife... bleh.)
I'm so great with titles, wooohoo. Quick drawing, with digital colours because I was already late. Now that I look at it again, it would be better if I had rotated it some 25° to the left.
